Right hooks: selling

Don’t focus on ad clicks. Get people to signup on your mailing list.

You’re going to have one hater.
You should never sell anything you’re doubtful of.
You have to create products of your own.
Give something away (a bonus) when you’re selling something as an affiliate.
Assign a value to your bonuses.
Bonuses should address objections that a buyer may have about what you sell.

Find a niche and ask a bunch of questions.
Ask people if they are already using software. If they aren’t there is going to be a big learning curve.
Diagram of old (current) workflow will help sell the new workflow you’re offering.
Notice what you’re feeling and why.
Write down your top two things you want to accomplish that day.
Think rationally and don’t let your fears take you over.
Approach all of your calls to try to give more than you take.
Ask and take action.
Book: The Lean Startup by Eric Ries
Appreciate the small wins along the way.
Questions to ask when having a phone conversation with a potential customer:

  • What is the most important area of your business?
  • Is there any pain associated with that particular activity?
  • What else?
  • Tell me more?
  • What software have you been looking for but haven’t found a good solution?
  • What are some repetitive tasks you have to do on a daily basis?
  • Who is responsible for those tasks?
  • How do you feel when you have to do those tasks?
  • If you could wave a magic wand in regards to that task what would happen?
  • What are the tasks you do that take up the most time?
  • What problems are costing you the most money?

Information means nothing unless if you take action on it.

Once you start delivering value to your customers they start delivering value to you.
Position (your book) as not just a book and you can charge a higher price.
No matter who your audience is there are going to be people in your audience who can sell for you.
It takes experimentation.
Be authentic.

Get ten people to help you give away copies of your books and goodies.
Reward people. Give them access to you.
Make it exclusive.
You need a lot of reviews on Amazon.
Amazon is the prominent search engine where people have their credit cards out and are ready to buy.
Get a lot of people to give you honest reviews.
.mobi is the most common Kindle format.
Send your launch team both the .pdf and the .mobi.
Reviews are great social proof.
Amazon’s best seller list is updated hourly.
Getting on the Amazon bestseller list becomes a snowball of momentum.
Get on the list by selling a large amount in a short period of time.
Say to people, “if you buy my book within this amount of time send me the receipt and I’ll give you…”
You want to reward your early adopters.
Help people decide to buy now.
After a while raise the price.
People buy something now so they can save money later.
Instead of starting high (in price) and going low, start low and then go high.
A book is about spreading an idea.
In order to stand out you need to do something remarkable.
Do something that gets you noticed.
Do a publicity stunt.
Give people an opportunity to share their story.
Take portions of the book and repurpose it as content to give away (as excerpts, guest posts, etc.).
Give away 25% to 33% of the book in various forms.
People aren’t going to read 40% of your book if they’re not interested in buying it. If they get to that point then they’re totally in and want the other 60%.
Blog the first chapter.
Launch with Amazon (rather than Snipit).
The number one way great ideas spread is through word of mouth.
No one book is just about one thing.

It is easier to double your conversion rate than double the amount of traffic you get.
Lead Pages (tool to help you create landing pages)
Fewer places to opt-in will get you more opt-ins.
Email lists are important for driving traffic.
You have the most control over your list.
Give away a list of tools or resources that will benefit your audience or your intended audience. “5 resources for creating videos”
The best selling issues of magazines are “gear guides”. (for photography, golf, etc. magazines)
Everybody wants to know the tools. We like to acquire tools rather than acquire skills.
Give people specific tools. Not ideas. Not concepts.
List of FREE resources.
There is no correlation between the value of what you’re giving away and your opt-in rate.
The first thing people think about is “What do I need to get started?”
“The list of the five essential pieces of exercise equipment you need in your home. Hint: they all weigh less than five pounds.”
The biggest killer of conversions is if people already think they know what you’re going to tell them.
Say something counter intuitive.
Setup your 404 page that says “404 Error Oops. The page you’re looking for cannot be found. But don’t leave empty handed. Get this free lesson.”
Give something new away with every blog post you can. (Attach the file to the email you mail to your list so those people don’t have to opt-in again.)
Start doing webinars.
Webinar pages have the highest conversion rate.
You should do them even if nobody attends.
You should do them to grow your audience.
Webinars are the cure all of writer’s block.
Record your webinars. You can sell them or give them away later.
When somebody goes to a page they immediately decide whether it is a giving page or a taking page.
People don’t opt-in to your list because they haven’t made the decision of whether they want to.
